Semester End

3 min read

Thank you everyone for reading my previous post and what ever effort you've made to try to help. I've managed to get the music needed for my animation with the help of a former neighbour. It's been an interesting experience when it came to getting the music and even more so a fun experience taking part of the 5.1 surround sound remastering.

The semester had its setbacks for the production schedule, not just with the overwhelming number of tasks affiliated with the pre-production, but events in life with my husband, with friends and family. Being able to cope with only a single task at a time, even organizing the ones on my list had running in all directions, getting me nowhere. What I've managed to take in from this semester was learning to cope with stress, namely quick problem solving and how to not be under stress. I'd like to thank a lot of people who had been supportive with their rational words.  I've collected myself and focused on the one task that I really had to do, animate. Dismissing any stress, I went on a binge and started animating at breakneck speed.

I have never felt so alive!

I love animating!

It can be hard sometimes to just talk about all of the process without any prompts, so please write in some questions as I'd love to answer and share my experience.

Thank you for being here.

So I've made it into the winter semester of my last year, at least what should be, for my BFA. I've registered for graduation so I gotta make good with my last animation class. I had spent nearly all the fall semester figuring out what to do for my final project. I had a long time before hand to think up of something, but nope, I hadn't managed to think up of anything before that. Don't worry, I got something and I've been working on the animatic.

I've even gotten myself a copy of TVPaint11, but I've come across a lot of set backs such as incompatible project file types between TVP and SonyMovieStudio Platinum, incompatabilities with quicktime .mov files and figuring out how to import png files properly.

With all of that and trying to get back in the swing of working on my animation, I had missed the deadline for the collaboration project which was well over a week ago and not tomorrow. Well I may be missing out on getting a music composer from the collab. I just have to get over it, deal with it and figure out what to do for the music. I have had a backup plan the whole time, just gotta either learn to play the score myself or find someone else who can do a good piano recording for me for a 2 minute short.

I suppose what I take back from all this so far is having to learn to cope with my panics. Indeed, what you learn from school is more than just what the lesson plans cover.

Well, onwards it is then :|

Considering how I am trying to pick up on tutoring via net, I'm having to seek a new live feed system to replace my old LiveStream (which is now payed)

I've tried Join.Me, but it doesn't seem to work to my liking. If you have other suggestions, please drop a comment. I do have a gmail account so it is possible for me to start something with youtube, but I'd really appreciate your feedback regarding this.

Next week will be WhatTheFur, I have some prints in process and I look forward to seeing everyone at the convention. Stop by my table for a chat or commission, or both :D

Sincere salutations dear readers and watchers, for I bring you news.
For 5 years (2008-2012), I have worked on staff at Otakuthon, as large as it is, the role was minor relative to all that was happening, but I did my part and did the best that I could for what little significance the art gallery played. Some of you perhaps wondered what happened last year. I did attend Otakuthon last year, but not as staff, just as a regular attendee.
As much as I care about the art gallery, I will no longer be part of staff. Here is why:
I am an artist and I belong as a dealer. (yup, that's it)

Ladies and Gentlemen, you can find me this Otakuthon 2014,

August 22-24,

at my dealer's table!

*payed and confirmed*

I'd like to take the opportunity to thank BD-Ghis for helping me with getting my application in. I wish him all the best at getting his own table also.
**Edit: Table get! Congrats man!**
When dealing at a convention, having great neighbours is a memorable experience and makes the event all the more wonderful.

As part of what I will bring will include a limited amount of prints among my best Zel/Amelia pieces. I have the vague impression that there are a few people that actually like these digital paintings of mine.
Here are the selection I have so far planned for printing.

oC: Mystic Air by NalaFontaine oC: defend by NalaFontaine oC: Shell of a Shadow by NalaFontaine oC: on the edge of by NalaFontaine oC: power by NalaFontaine

If you have any suggestions or ideas for new work, these are always welcome.

So far the plan is to print them as individual pieces, but a thought of a small anthology is always up in the air. I will also have my first drawing tutorial booklet available at tree fiddy as always.

what more will I make?

Well I want to attempt a small doujin! No I don't think it would be painted like these. I'm not much of an author, but I certainly express myself via drawing. So wish me luck, every practice counts.

New program has been acquired now while it was on sale... no commissions where requested as of yet to help fund this acquisition... it's been from my own pocket so far.

In recent news

My previous semester at school have gone just fine, asides from the light frustration I was getting from my drawing class. I passed my electives in psychology just fine, it was a fascinating class. The drawing class continues this semester, but in addition to that, I am also taking animation elective in Stop Motion animation.

The Current Project

My stop motion teacher Erik turned out to be one of those awesome teachers who is bursting with eagerness, energy and enthusiasm, which suits me great. As I was sitting at my desk here just one week ago, after an odd night's rest that left me with a kink in my neck and not being able to turn my head left without it hurting, my brain had been buzzing over armature methods that we had just gone over in class the previous day. It was 9am, I was sitting at my desk, a kink in my neck, -25 Celsius in the blasting cold outside, me mumbling to myself "I gotta go to Canadian Tire". . . repeatedly.

I got dressed, all warm and such, clinging to an aching neck and minding not to move it much, waddled over in the bleak cold for the 15 minute walking distance to my nearest hardware store with the purpose of scouting the possible material I could use to make a puppet armature with. As I was having to browse the store, up and down, side to side, the kink in my neck had could not stop the determination of this drive to craft a good armature. I mean it, a good armature. I was not satisfied with the typical ball/socket armature that was presented to us. I felt it was a little unnecessarily chunky for certain parts.

All week, I had been fiddling with concepts, going over my anatomy book, trying to work out how to get a well articulated armature, crafting prototypes out of paper and foam-core, constantly sketching in a couple dozen pages in my notepad as I was mulling it all over again and again.

Hopefully if my concept is successful, I could even make puppets of these guys, which is my awesome goal.

Well I'll be focusing on just Cricket and I'll be making the ball & socket armature. I'm about to head out to the metal shop to make the pieces. I am so nervous.

I will be supplying snaps of the casting exercise I have to do too. Let me just get this stuff underway
